A Journey begins

In Sanskrit "Ranga" means Stage and "Pravesa" means Enter. Ideally this is the first long public performance of an artist. After learning Kuchipudi under the guidance of an accomplished guru, this performance is the testing time for both the guru and the disciple as on this occasion, the public judges the guru`s knowledge & the disciple`s talent together. Hence, the guru decides when the disciple is ready for public appearance. Rangapravesam is also known as Arangetram in Tamil or Gajjepooje in Kannada In their first performance, the student is made to worship the muvvalu (bells), wear them & then perform. Accompaniments play a major role in the making of a memorable dance performance. Basic accompaniments for kuchipudi dance are a Singer, Mridangam player, Violin player, Flute player and ofcourse the Nattuvangam. Veena and other instruments are optional. For many it is the beginning of a career with possibilities and a lifelong journey for others it is fulfilling a dream.
