Guru Hima Bindu was initiated into Kuchipudi under the great maestro Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam where she learnt the intricacies of the style and had extensive training for over ten years in Chennai, India. She later continued her advanced training under Mrs. Satyapriya Ramana (a senior disciple of Dr. Vempati).
In India, she has performed at various prestigious organizations and won many awards, starting with the national award in the Inter-University National Youth festival in 1988.
She made her International debut at the Festival of India in Andaman and Nicobar islands in 1996. In 1998, she toured in USA with her guru, Dr. Vempati, and has participated in Kuchipudi dance ballets like “Ardha Naareshwaram”, “Saakuntalam”, and “Srinivasa Kalyanam”. Her other notable performances include Siddhendra Jayanthi dance festival in the venerable village of Kuchipudi in 2000.
In 1996 Guru Hima married Dev Mannemala and moved to the USA. In 2004, she started her dance school, "Nrityananda School of Kuchipudi”. Guru Hima and her students have performed actively in various concerts organized by Yuva Bharathi, BATA and other organizations.
Guru Hima has done lead roles in “Menaka Vishwamitra”, (choreographed by Dr. Vempati), “Swapna Vijayam”, (Kuchipudi adaption of Nutcracker, choreographed by Smt. Sasikala Penumarthi) and "Telugu Tejam" (choreographed by Smt. Srilatha Suri).“ Guru Hima has also the privilege of donning the role of Nataraja Lord Shiva in "Kalyana Srinivasam (choreographed by Padmasree Smt. Shobha Naidu), "Mahishasura Mardhini" (Choreographed by Sri Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma) , "Girija Kalyanam" (choreographed by Bhagavatula Sethuram), Sri Vigneswara Vaibhavam (choregographed by Smt. Revathi Komanduri), Tripaadi Ganga and Gajananeeyam (choreographed by"Natyakaladhara" Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry).
